About The Supreme Bean
History
The Supreme Bean Coffee Roasters grew out of Joe To Go, the leading provider of brewed coffee in Southern California. Joe To Go was the first catering company to bring specialty and flavored coffees to the back lots of Hollywood in 1994. Grueling hours, inhospitable locations, and freezing cold sets make coffee the lifeblood of everyone on a show, from the production assistant to the star. We began roasting coffee to ensure that the expectations of our demanding clientele would be more than satisfied. Soon we started getting requests to provide roasted coffee for production offices and individuals and then the word spread to restaurant and cafe owners. In order to meet the growing demand for our custom roasted coffee, we joined forces with a like minded roaster and began producing coffee under the Supreme Bean label. In April of 2005, we merged with another friend in the coffee industry, New Planet Coffee, and began roasting in our new facility situated less than a mile from Joe To Go. Today, Supreme Bean carries on the tradition of producing artisan quality coffee and offers a full complement of products, equipment, service, and expert consulting.
Philosophy
The Supreme Bean is an artisan coffee roaster with over ten years experience supplying the finest restaurants, cafes, coffee houses and caterers with truly fresh and unique critically acclaimed coffees. At the Supreme Bean, high quality coffee is more than just our passion…it is our obsession. In a market flooded with coffee, claims such as “we have the highest grade” or “our beans are roasted fresh daily” are simply not enough. A discriminating consumer looks past the fluff to the final proof: what’s in the cup.
The Supreme Bean exceeds the exacting standards set by “the cup test” because we take a culinary approach to coffee. A culinary perspective requires that we look past the bean grade and research the bean pedigree. We have come to believe that coffee beans are akin to wine grapes. Older rootstocks, though less disease resistant and less productive than newer hybrids, offer superior taste. The heirloom lines have deeper and more resonant versions of the flavor profile for which each region is known. Whenever possible, and where the flavor supports it, we source coffees from these heirloom varietal coffee beans.
“Customer Service” is a cheap and easy phrase to toss around when talking about what makes one company different from another. The Supreme Bean’s commitment to service grew out of the crucible of television and movie production. If so-and-so star/producer wanted 2 maple glazed doughnuts cut into quarters and half a cup of Kona coffee in Malibu at 2:30 am everyone knew Joe To Go was the company to call. The Supreme Bean’s commitment to our customers has its roots in the individualized, on-the-spot service demanded by the entertainment industry.

To date the Supreme Bean has the highest scoring decaf espresso in the history of Coffee Review and the third highest scoring espresso in addition to many 90 plus scores in single origin coffees like Organic Timor Maubesse, Papua New Guinea and Ethiopia Yirgacheffe.
