The HotTop drum home coffee
roaster is the most commercial like of the home roasters
we have yet tested. The HotTop has the largest capacity of the home
roasters too. Accepting 9 oz of green beans, the HotTop will produce
approximately a half pound of roasted coffee. The excellent drum
agitation of the beans produces a nice even roast. With the view window
in front, the roasting is fun to watch, and also provides helpful
visual cues on roast stage. When the roast is complete, the hot beans
drop into a fan cooled cooling tray with agitator.
The HotTop features electronic controls to set roast level (7 levels).
When the cycle is initiated, the roaster enters a preheat cycle and
then a beep alerts you when it is time to dump the beans in the drum
using the included funnel. For maximum control of the roast length, an
eject button is available that will terminate the roast when pressed. A
plus button adds 20 seconds to the roast time with each push with aa
maximum of 5 pushes (or 1 minute 40 sec). A smoke filter helps reduce
some smoke, alhttps://gojavago.myshopify.com/admin/pages/show_page/194652
GoJavaGo ~ Admin ~ Coffee Equipmentthough with a large 9 oz capacity, the HotTop will
generate quite a bit of smoke. As with most roasters (especially this
one) we recommend roasting under a vent hood that vents outside, or
some other well ventilated area. Safety guards help prevent accidental
touching of the machine when hot, reducing the chance of burning
yourself.
The roast time is in the 20 minute range, longer than the air roasters
and similar to the Alpenrost drum roaster. Longer roasts tend to
produce fuller body and less acidity. Varying the batch size can affect
the roast length and flavor profile.
